Lifelong Learner University (LLU), by Valley Sheltered Workshop (VSW), exists to relieve family stress and strengthen communities by creating opportunities for neurodiverse adults to learn, grow, build friendships, increase independence, and prepare for meaningful lives within their communities.
Class Time: 8:30AM - 3:00PM
Location: Fox Valley Christian Church, @ 40W150 Main St, Batavia, IL 60510
Class Size: 15 participants per class, 30 total per day (AM / PM classes switch).
Days: LLU will be open Monday-Thursday. Classes will meet 2 days per week.
Start Date: LLU Classes will begin the week after Labor Day.
Our LLU admissions team is comprised of professionals, including those with backgrounds in Special Education, who are committed to creating an inclusive and supportive learning environment.
The purpose of submitting an application is to gather information that will help us determine whether LLU is the right fit for the applicant at this time.
Admissions Process:
1) Complete and submit the initial application via Google Forms (see link below).
2) Applications will be reviewed by the LLU admissions team.
3) Applicants selected to move forward will be invited to participate in an interview (in person preferred; virtual available upon request).
4) Following the interview, applicants will be notified of the admissions decision.
5) Accepted applicants will complete an enrollment packet before the start of classes.
Currently, Lifelong Learner is an afternoon learning experience for adults with intellectual disabilities, developmental disabilities, and members of the neurodiverse community.
Our classes are designed to be age-respectful, hands-on, and community-centered. Participants build confidence, practice real-life skills, make friends, and continue growing as lifelong learners.

Class Time: 3:00 PM – 6:00 PM
Location: VSW, 325 Main Street, Batavia, IL 60510
Class Size: 12 participants per class
Registration: Participants may sign up for one class or all four.

Starts June 8th
Participants will learn about the community through special guest visitors from local organizations, first responders, therapy groups, and community leaders.
This class helps participants understand how the community works, ask questions, build confidence, and connect with the people and services around them.

Starts June 9th
Tuesday Fundamentals focuses on building strong everyday skills through meaningful themes connected to holidays, seasons, and days of significance.
Participants may explore planting, service projects, arts and crafts, cooking fundamentals, daily living skills, communication, reading, numbers, and hands-on learning activities.

Starts June 11th
Thursday’s Cooking with Alice class focuses on cooking, budgeting, meal planning, and the fundamentals of independent living.
Participants will learn kitchen safety, prepare meals together, explore grocery budgeting, and build confidence using real-life skills.
LLU courses are designed for adults with intellectual disabilities, developmental disabilities, and members of the neurodiverse community who:
Participants must be able to use the restroom and manage personal hygiene independently.
Trained staff supervise all activities
In limited cases, a parent, guardian, or support person may be allowed to attend with a participant to support success. This is reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
